Mitsuhiro Karasumaru was born in 1579. He was the son of Mitsunobu.

Mitsuhiro Karasumaru began life as a rake. Later to his good fortune he met Yūsai Hosokawa and under whose good influence he soon became a master of waka poetry and who advised him to study the tenets of Zen from Isshi Oshō. He went to Edo (1618) where he became a courtier. Among his works are Koyo-waha-shu (an anthology of poems) and Jiteilci (a record of his talks with Yūsai Hosokawa).
