Career
Sumoto made his debut at the 2011-2012 Japan Novice Championships, where he placed 10th. At the 2012-2013 Japan Novice Championships, Sumoto finished 12th. The following year, he placed 8th at the 2013-2014 Japan Novice Championships.
2015-2016 Season
During the 2015-2016 figure skating season, Sumoto debuted on the International Skating Union Junior Grand Prix circuit.
He started off his season by placing 7th at his Junior Grand Prix event in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
