Mitsusada Inoue was born in Tokyo, the great grandson of Kaoru Inoue and the maternal grandson of Taro Katsura.
After graduating from Tokyo University (1942) was engaged by the Japan Academy for the compilation of "History of Organization of Imperial Household."
Later became assistant professor at his alma mater. A specialist in Japanese history, Mitsusada Inoue is a scholar of social history who has used modern methods developed by Max Weber and others for elucidating the clan systems of Japan and the Jodo sect of Buddhism. Among his works are "Problems of Ancient History of Japan" and "Taika Restoration."
