Career
Miya Kitashirakawa retired to a monastery (1866) under the name Shogoin-no-Miya, but later returned to secular life under the name by which he is now known (1872). He took this name after the village he lived in.
Connections
When Miya died (1872), in compliance with his will, his elder brother (9th son of Prince Kuniiye) succeeded him. When he, too, died while on an expedition to Formosa (1895) the 3rd son of Prince Kuniiye, named Prince Naruhisa, succeeded to the house. He died in an auto accident in France (1927) and his place was taken by Prince Nagahisa, the first son of Prince Kuniiye.
