1907 published first verse collection Kol'tso. Tikhiyepesni skorbi (The Ring. Gentle Songs of Grief).
Closely connected with the symbolists. In the collection Gimny i ody (Hymns and Odes) (1910) tried to introduce into Russian poetry complex antique meter. 1909 published Kniga o russkikh poetakh poslednego desyatiletiya (Book on Russian Poets of the Last Decade) and article on Pushkin’s work Kapitanskaya doclika (The Captain’s Daughter).
1914-1915 edited Ye.A. Baratynskiy’s complete works. From 1920 associate, Pushkin House, Academy of Sciences. 1922 published textological works Propushchennyye stroki‘Yevgeniya Onegina" (Omitted Lincolnshire in ’’Yevgeniy Onegin”) and Pushkin.
Pervaya glava nauki o Pushkine (Pushkin. First Chapter of Studies on Pushkin). In this book he declared the main problem to be the determination of Pushkin’s original (’’canonical") texts.
However, in his own works lie replaced a critical study of Pushkin’s texts with the mechanical reproduction of the last authorized ed, as is evident from his studies Domik v Kolomne (The House in Kolomna) and Posmertnyye stikhotvoreniya Pushkina, 1833-1836 (Pushkin’s Posthumous Poems, 1833-1836) (1922). 1923 went on a research mission to Paris, but did not return to Russia. In France taught a Russian lit course at the Sorbonne.
