Educated locally then at Roma Boys’ School. To find money for further education he interrupted his studies in 1945-6 to work in a factory in the Transvaal, South Africa.
After gaining a teacher’s diploma he taught at Masabiela Roman Catholic School and the Tladi School in Maseru. On joining the Basutoland National Party in 1961 he edited “Mohlanka”, the party paper.
Elected to the Legislative Assembly in 1965, he became Minister of Finance in the independence government and had to keep a tight grip on the purse strings while economic development was being planned. He introduced reforms into revenue collection before being switched to the Ministry of Justice in 1967.
A year later he became Minister of Health and in February 1970 he was given two extra portfolios. Education and Social Welfare. He lost hit place in the cabinet at the reshuffle in July 1972.
