Career
After placing second in a pre-Olympic meet in Munich, Gill competed while injured. Political interference almost cost him the chance to compete, including a false published quote that he did not intend to compete. Prime Minister Indira Gandhi intervened to allow him to compete.
Some of those records stood 40 years later.
Gill attended Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, competing 1968-1971, winning five National Collegiate Athletic Association championships. He was elected into the Cal Poly Athletic Hall of Fame in 1993, the only Asian to receive that honor.Gill currently resides in Turlock in central California.
