From 1906 taught at private schools. 1918-1931 (with short intervals) worked for Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic People's Commissariat of Education. From 1920 director, Lepeshinskiy School-Commune.
1931-1936 at North Caucasian Teachers’ Training Institute, Rostov-on-Don. From July 1936 director, Centr Education Research Institute, Higher Communist Institute of Education. Specialized in teaching methods, labor training and polytech training.
Helped revise general educational curriculum in Soviet schools. Wrote first Soviet educational textbook for teachers’ training institutes. 1937 arrested by State Security organs.
