Career
After Kyoto Mojidayū Tokiwazu began taking interest in bungo-bushi, which he learnt from Bungo-no-jo Miyakoji, and soon gained a reputation for himself under the name of Mojidayii Miyakoji.
Shortly after he followed his master to Edo (now Tokyo), where they formed a team for recitals at theaters (1730). When the reciting of bungo-bushi was banned, and his master returned to Kyoto, he stayed behind with the determination of having the ban lifted. His efforts bore fruit, the ban was lifted and he soon thereafter earned a great reputation as a joruri reciter under the name·by which he is now known. His fame stayed with him for more than 30 years.
