Mon-in Eifuku was born in 1271. She was the daughter of Sanekane Saionj. Her given name was Akiko (Shoshi).

She became a nun in 1316, assuming the name of Shinnyogen. Her poetry was original. Many odes composed by her are contained in Heian period anthologies.
