Mon-In Koka joined the Imperial Court as a lady-in-waiting (1129), where she attracted the attention of the Emperor, who subsequently married her (1130), and was awarded the title Empress Dowager (1164). Late in life she entered a monastery and took to herself the name of Shojo-e.
