Avanesyan started becoming interested in music at the age of 3½, but began her singing career at the age of 5. She started taking violin classes at age 7, then took dancing and singing lessons at age 10½. In summer 2013, Avanesyan released her debut single, titled "Das Chem Anelu."
On 27 September 2013, Monica Avanesyan competed in the Armenian national selection for the 11th Junior Eurovision Song Contest, with "Choco Factory," placing 1st in a field of 12 hopefuls, thus winning the right to represent the nation.
In Kyiv, the song placed 6th with a score of 69 points, receiving 12 points from Georgia.
