Came to the United States, 1913, naturalized, 1932. Journalist, illustrator, contributor to periodicals in India, Ceylon, also on staff Shanghai (China) Times, 1911-1913. Assistant Professor of English Miami University, Oxford, O., 1922-1927.

Associate Professor of English West Virginia University, 1927-1930.

Graduate instructor University of Michigan, 1930-1935. Professor of English Beloit (Wisconsin) College, 1935-1957.

Visiting Professor of English literature Dickinson College, since 1957. Former visiting professor George Peabody College, Nashville, Northwestern University.
