Montserrat Gudiol was born on June 9, 1933 in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. She was the daughter of the architect and art historian Gudiol Ricart, one of the most eminent Catalan teachers in the study of art.

In 1950, Montserrat Gudiol studied restoration of old paintings and focuses specifically on painting on wood and paper.
The starting point for Montserrat Gudiol’s work was founded on the broad tradition of figurative art filtered through Symbolism and a stylization that values the detail at the core of the painting. Her first exhibition took place in Ripoll in 1950. Later Gudiol widely exhibited in Barcelona, Ripoll, Malaga, Seville, Bilbao, South Africa, the United States, the former Soviet Union and Canada.
During her artistic career, she worked in various museums and foundations, including the National Museum of Art of Catalonia (MNAC) in Barcelona, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, Museum of Fine Arts and Modern Art in Bilbao, and others.
In 1981 she became the first woman admitted to the Real Academia Catalana of Fine Arts of San Jordi.
Montserrat Gudiol died on December 25, 2015 in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain.
Montserrat Gudiol was awarded the 1st Prize in the collective exhibition "Pintura Femenina" by the Diputación de Barcelona in 1954. The same year she obtained the 2nd Sant Jordi Prize in the contest organized by the Barcelona Provincial Council.
In 1960 she received the 1st prize in the International Drawing Contest conducted by the Ynglada Guillot Foundation, Barcelona, and the 3rd prize in the National Exhibition of Fine Arts, Barcelona.
Besides, she received the Creu de Sant Jordi, awarded by the Government of Catalonia in 1998, and the Gold medal of the Bar Association, Barcelona.
She was elected a full member of the Real Academia Catalana of Fine Arts of San Jordi, Barcelona, in 1981. Besides, she was a member of the Royal Artistic Circle of Barcelona, the Jaume I Foundation and the Advisory Council of the International Foundation for Women Entrepreneurs (FIDEM).
