Moorhead Wright, American banker.


Wright, Moorhead was born on June 18, 1872 in Little Rock, Arkansas, United States. Son of William Fulton and Louisa (Watkins) Wright.


Graduate as cadet captain Virginia Military Institute, Lexington, Virginia, 1892. Studied medicine, University of Arkansas, 1 year.


Began as collector of rents, Cornish & England, Little Rock, 1893. Became connected with S. J. Johnson & Company, bankers and brokers, 1894, and elected treasurer upon incorporation, 1899. Company developed into Union Trust Company, of which was made vice-president and treasurer, 1911, president, 1915-1928, Chairman of the Board, 1928-1935.

Chairman of board United Corporation. Was director and Chairman of the Board Little Rock Branch Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. Vice president of Southwest Joint Stock Land Bank.

Vice-president and director Commonwealth Federal Savings and Loan Association.


Served as First lieutenant and adjt. 2d Arkansas Infantry Vols., Spanish-American War. Member Arkansas Council of Defense and state chairman National War Savings Committee, World War.

President Little Rock Clearing House Association, Little Rock Community Chest. Member of the Board of Governors Little Rock Chamber Commerce. Member American Bankers Association (executive council), Association Reserve City Bankers, Arkansas Bankers Association (ex-president), National Aeronautic Association (president Little Rock Chapter), National Association Real Estate Exchanges, etc.

Clubs: Athletic Association (ex-president), Quapaw, Little Rock Country (ex-president), Spring Lake.
