He was granted a fellowship to the Juilliard Graduate School of Music during his freshman year at Columbia College in 1930, the first (and only) student to attend both institutions concurrently. At Juilliard, he studied voice with Francis Rogers. During the Bach Tercentenary, 1985, he led a tour to the Bach Festival in Leipzig, and a few years after that he completed a documentary, The Stations of Bach, in East Germany.
This was funded by the National Endowments for the Arts and Humanities, and shown nationally on Public Broadcasting Service in 1990 for many years after.
lieutenant is now owned by City University of New York television and shown yearly on Bach"s birthday, March 21. In 2006, Mordy and Irma wrote their memoir and named it, "From our Angle of Repose".
