Career
He was mayor of Jerusalem from 1959 to 1965. Ish-Shalom was born in Lithuania and moved to British Palestine in 1923. His labor career began in the Stonecutters" Union in 1935.
He then rose through the ranks of the Histadrut, the Israeli trade union congress.
Ish-Shalom was instrumental in the successful development of Kiryat Wolfson, a five-tower high-rise project constructed in Jerusalem in the 1970s. Ish-Shalom died at the age of 90.
The cause of death was not released.
