He was selected by the Redskins in the third round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He played college football at Virginia. After originally committing to Virginia, he played one year of prep football at Fork Union Military Academy in order to become academically qualified to attend Virginia.
During his tenure, he started 13 games, of which 0 were at right tackle, 1 at left tackle, and one at offensive guard.
As a senior, he earned third-team All-Administrative Committee on Company-ordination honors. He studied a number of courses including selections in the African American Studies and Military Science departments.
