Smith received his first skateboard at the age of six, and by ten he was skating with serious intent. In approximately 2004, Smith was asked to skate for the Blind skateboard company during a visit by the team to Smith"s hometown. In the fall of 2008, Smith was featured on the cover of Session Border Controllers Skateboard magazine and, following a "60 Minutes in the Park" segment for Transworld in June 2012, was surprised by his Blind teammates with a signature deck that indicated his transition into the professional realm.

Contest history
He competed in the finals of the Battle of the Berrics 4, a competition held for professional skateboarders at The Berrics, along with Mike Mo Capaldi, PJ Ladd, and Davis Torgerson. As of June 2012, Smith is sponsored by Blind, Venture, Sml wheels, District of Columbia, Blue Tile, Grizzly Grip, and Etcetera as well as Toronto skateboard shop Blue Tile Lounge.
