Morie Ogiwara went to the United States (1901) and studied at an art school. Then went to France where be determined to become a sculptor and became a disciple of Auguste Rodin.
He first belonged to the Fudosha Group of oil painters led by Shotaro Koyama. After returning to Japan (1908), he won prizes for his work entered in the Education Ministry's exhibitions.
