Morris began his career in San Francisco during the late nineties in the office of A. C. Schweinfurth where he worked on plans of the Examiner Building and the Hearst Ranch. During a later period, 1898 to 1911, Mr. Bruce was associated with the late Albert Pissus on the Mechanics Institute, Flood Building, the Mercantile Trust, the Hibernian Building, and the Stanford Medical Library.
After the death of Mr. Pissus, Mr. Bruce succeeded to his practice and continued active over a number of years. Among the varied types of buildings, he designed in the Bay area were alterations and additions to the Flood Building in 1919; the Adams School in 1923, and alterations to the Emporium Building. Also, he designed the Music Building at the Dominican College in San Rafael. After maintaining an office in the Flood Building for many years, Mr. Bruce retired from architectural practice in 1930 to spend the remainder of his life at his home at Redwood City, Calif.
