He went to Chicago to begin architectural training in the office of the late S. S. Beman. A few years later he found employment with the firm of Patten & Miller, and after being promoted to the position of chief draftsman in 1912 became a junior partner. In association with Mr. Flinn after 1915 he was identified with the design of various buildings in the state such as the First Congregational Church at Oak Park; West Suburban Hospital at Oak Park, and buildings for the McKinley Foundation at the University of Illinois. He also designed Skinner Memorial Chapel and other buildings at Carleton College, Northfield, Minn.
