Moto-omi Kaneko published a poetical magazine Kagaku in an effort to popularize poetry among the nation's intelligentsia. His talents were soon recognized and he was appointed Commissioner of the Imperial Poetry Bureau. Among his works are "A Commentary of Kokin-wakashu" and "A Commentary of Makura-no-soshi".
