Taki Mototane was born in 1789. He was the third child of Motoyasu Taki.
In childhood Taki received instruction in the family profession of medicine and afterwards became known for his extensive knowledge on medicine.
Taki was interviewed by Shogun lenari for the first time in 1805. He succeeded his father as igaku-kanji (inspector of medicine) of the Shogunate and with his younger brother Motokata did much for the advancement of medicine. Mototane was conferred the honorary title of Hogen in 1822. He also wrote several books on medicine.
