When Muhammad XII aka Boabdil, the nephew of "el Zagal", surrendered the Alhambra Palace to the Christian rulers, "el Zagal" left for North Africa to gather an army. There he was imprisoned by the ruler of the Kingdom of Fez, Boabdil's friend, who was ordered to blind him. He presumably died in 1494 in Tlemcen.
