Career

He received B. Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (1980) and then Master of Science Doctor Sharma has been on the faculty at the University of Texas for the past 29 years and served as Chairman of the Department from 2001 to 2005. Current research interests include hydraulic fracturing, oilfield water management, formation damage and improved oil recovery.

He has published more than 300 journal articles and conference proceedings and have 12 patents.

Additional details about his research work and publication can be found on the website. He served as an Society of Petroleum Engineers Distinguished Lecturer in 2002 and have served on the Editorial Boards of many journals, and taught and consulted for industry worldwide.

Beyond academia, Doctor Sharma has founded Austin Geotech Services, an East&P consulting company in 1996 and co-founded Layline Petroleum and Karsu Petroleum private East&P companies in 2006.
