Career
Before his appointment in 2001 he served in the Pakistani Army for 38 years. Hafiez was commissioned in the 39th PMA Long Course in October 1968. He also stayed GOC 7th Infantry Division at Peshawar and as Commander, XXXI Corps at Bahawalpur from August 2000 to October 2001.
He was replaced by Lieutenant
General Shahid Aziz after completing a controversial four-year tenure at National Association of Broadcasters from October 2001 to October 2005. He also served as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Fauji Fertilizer Company Limited.
He is now Chairman Board of Trustees of the Zindagi Trust, a private organisation. In 2012 the Public Accounts Committee, a parliamentary body which also monitors cases of corruption had directed the National Accountability Bureau to investigate Lieutenant
General (retired) Munir Hafiez for allegedly abusing his authority to get a lucrative state-issued license for Liquefied Petroleum Gas.
In addition, various investigative reports in papers have also alleged other major examples of corruption by General Hafiez whilst holding the charge of (former) Chairman of the National Association of Broadcasters.
