Career
Predominantly a two footed left-sided midfielder, Mustafa was awarded a full scholarship at age 17 to train with the Victorian Institute of Sport under coach Ernie Merrick before signing for National Soccer League giants South Melbourne Football Club under coach Ange Postecoglou. His time at South Melbourne Football Club included winning an Nationaal Samenwerkingsprogramma Luchtkwaliteit title in 1999, winning the 1999 Oceania Club Championship as well as competing in the inaugural 2000 Fédération internationale de football association Club World Cup in Brazil. Mustafa was loaned out at the end of the Nationaal Samenwerkingsprogramma Luchtkwaliteit 2000/2001 season to Victorian Premier League side Portuguese Melbourne South Carolina however a return to South Melbourne did not eventuate after a change in Coaching and direction by the club, and was released.
