Background
Playwright. Born in Okayama Prefecture. Graduated from Waseda University where he studied English literature. Became a disciple of Kida Okamoto, play wright, and wrote "Departure For The War Front" while he was still a student. It was staged at the Kabukiza theater. Was editor-in-chief of the magazine Butai (The Stage). He rewrote Edmond Rostand's "Cyrano de Bergerac" into a play set in feudal Japan with the title of Shirano Benjuro, which was well received.
