KHVYLYOVYY, Mykola was born on December 13, 1893 in Trotsyanets, now Sumy Oblast.
Fought in Civil War in Ukraine. 1922 began writing poetry, then switched to prose. Company-founder, Gart proletarian writers’ associate.
1925 founded new writers’ associate - Free Academy of Proletarian Writers and published its journal VAPL1TE. Preached orientation on West European lines as a counter-balance to Moscow. 1927 criticized by Central Committee, Communist Party (Bolsheviks) Ukraine for nationalistic ideas, whereupon he stopped advocating proWestern orientation.
1927 Free Academy of Proletarian Writers abolished. Joined All-Ukraine League of Proletarian Writers. His views were taken up by the "Literature Fair" (1928-1930) and ’’Polit Front” (1931) writers’ associate.
Communist Party member.
