Myra Hoffenberg Strober was born on March 28, 1941 in New York City, New York, United States; the daughter of Julius W. Holfenberg and Regina S. Holfenberg.
Myra Strober received a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Relations from Cornell University in 1962, a Master of Arts in Economics from Tufts University in 1965 and a Doctor of Philosophy in Economics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1969.
Strober began her career at the University of Maryland—College Park, first as a lecturer, then as an assistant professor. In 1970 she was appointed as a lecturer in economics at the University of California—Berkeley. Two years later Myra became an assistant professor at Stanford University and professor of business and education. From 1998 to 2000 she worked at Atlantic Philanthropic Service Co., as a program officer in higher education. Nowadays Myra Strober is a labor economist and Professor Emerita at the School of Education at Stanford University. She is also Professor of Economics at the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University.
Myra was the founding director of the Stanford Center for Research on Women (nowadays the Michelle R. Clayman Institute for Gender Research) and the first chair of the National Council for Research on Women, a consortium of about 65 U.S. centers for research on women. She also was an associate editor of Feminist Economics.
Strober is the author of numerous articles on occupational segregation, women in the professions and management, the economics of childcare and feminist economics. Strober’s first books is Women and Poverty. It was published in 1986. Her most recent book is a memoir, Sharing the Work: What My Family and Career Taught Me About Breaking Through. She is also co-author of The Road Winds Uphill All the Way: Gender, Work, and Family in the United States and Japan.

1999Myra has consulted with several corporations on improved utilization of women in management and on work-family issues. She also was an expert witness in cases involving the valuation of work in the home, sex discrimination, and sexual harassment.
Myra Strober is a member of International Association for Feminist Economics, American Economic Association, Industrial Relations Research Association and American Educational Research Association.
Myra Strober married Samuel Strober on June 23, 1963. They divorced in 1983. Later, she married Jay M. Jackman, a physician. Myra has two children from her first marriage - Jason M.and Elizabeth A.
