Nafisa Ali is a former model and actrees, nowadays a social activist with extensive experience in the area of health, women and child rights poverty and social development. She is an activist recognised for her beliefs of the religious harmony and unity.

Background

Nafisa Ali was born on January 18, 1957 in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. She is a daughter of Ahmed Ali, a renowned photographer.

Education

Nafisa went to Sr. Cambridge from La Martiniere Calcutta.

Career

In 1974 she become the National Swimming Champion of India. She won the Miss India title in 1976 and was runner-up at the Miss International contest in 1977. She has acted in several Bollywood films, the notable ones being "Junoon" (1979) with Shashi Kapoor and "Major Saab". As an activist she has fought high-level corruption scams, taking to the streets to endorse the various movements such as, for the lack of power high altitude clothing during the Kargil war, coffin scams, proving the defense deals need to be accountable.

Achievements

  • She is the first woman to become Chairperson of Women’s Commission Indian Olympic Association. She was the Official Government delegate of India at the 49th United Nations Summit on the Status of Women held in New York in March 2005.

Politics

Politics is a way for her to further her mission for a better India .The Indian National Congress is who she believes in with its Constitutional Rights and dignity of focus for every Indian through commitment to democracy.
