Background
Nagaharu Bessho was born in 1558.
Warlord in the Azuchi-Momoyama Period
Nagaharu Bessho was born in 1558.
When Nobunaga Oda began an expedition to conquer Chugoku, or western Honshu, he placed Hideyoshi in the vanguard of the army, instead of Nagaharu. The latter was angered by this choice, taking it as Nobunaga's distrust in him. Nagaharu thereupon sided with the Moris, influential warrior family in Chugoku. Hideyoshi resorted to the tactic of cutting the line of communication between the Moris and Nagaharu in Miki Castle. After the provisions in the castle had run out, Nagaharu asked Hideyoshi for provisions for his retainers on the condition that he would kill himself. Hideyoshi sent to Miki Castle not only the requested provisions but liquor and delicacies for a farewell party for Nagaharu. He killed himself as promised.
