Career
Commanding officer of the converted cruiser Shinano Maru in the Japan Sea Battle m the Russo- Japanese War (1904-05). His wireless message from the Shinano Maru, "Enemy Fleet Sighted" sent to Admiral Heihachiro Togo's flagship Mikasa led to the annihilation of Vice-Admiral Sinovn Petrovitch Roshestvenski’s Baltic Fleet. The Shinano Maru sighted the Russian fleet near the Goto Island off Kyushu.
