Nanasaheb Ramji Tawde obtained Bachelor of Arts from Bombay University in 1919 and Bachelor of Science in 1922. He received Master of Science at Bombay University in 1928. He obtained Doctor of Philosophy from University of London, UK in 1939. He did research in Spectroscopy and was a specialist in Nuclear physics.
Nanasaheb Tawde was professor and head at the department of Physics, Institute of Science in Mumbai in 1933-1953, and at Karnataka University in Dharwar; visiting professor under India Wheat Loan Exchange Program at Universities of Chicago and California (Berkeley), USA in 1956-1957; acting vice-chancellor at Karnatak University in 1962; and vice-chancellor at Marathwada University in Aurangabad in 1964-1971. He wrote about 110 articles and research papers and 1 book; also he was an editor of various Scientific Journals.
Professor Tawde was elected Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences in Bangalore, Institute of Physics in London, Institution of Nuclear Engineers (England), Maharashtra Academy of Sciences; and President of Physics Section in Indian Science Congress in 1953.
