In 1967 Nancy received an Associate degree at Casper College. Then she earned Bachelor of Arts at University of Wyoming in 1969. She also graduated from University of Denver Publishing Institute in 1984.
Curtis is the primary editor and publisher of High Plains Press which has published over 55 books on Wyoming and the West. Nancy Curtis has served as chairman for the Wyoming Council on the Arts board. She is also one of three editors, along with Linda Hasselstrom and Gaydell Collier, of a series of anthologies published by Houghton Mifflin: "Leaning into Wind", "Woven on the Wind", and "Crazy Woman Creek" contain essays and poetry by western women.
On July 23, 1966, Nancy married Douglas J. Curtis, with whom she has a child Wendy Curtis.
