Malone debuted on Broadway in Time Out Foreign Ginger. In 1976, she became the first female vice-president of television at 20th Century Fox. Malone was a painter and a poet, and she enjoyed playing football and baseball.
She died of pneumonia while battling leukemia on May 8, 2014, aged 79.

In 1977, she was awarded one of the first Crystal by Women in Film for outstanding women who, through their endurance and the excellence of their work, have helped to expand the role of women within the entertainment industry. Malone won an Emmy Award for producing Bob Hope: The First 90 Years (1993) (television) and was nominated for Emmy for directing episodes of Sisters in (1991), and The Trials of Rosie O"Neill in (1992). She was a board member for The Alliance Of Women Directors, composed of female directors who are alumnae of the American Film Institute"s Directing Workshop for Women. She was also a Lifetime member of The Actors Studio.
