The California Water Color Society has been awarding prizes at its annual exhibition since 1922 and, according to the Society, purchase prizes since 1925. A collection of these prize paintings purchased between 1931 and 1954, excepting winners in 1932, 1933 and 1943, was presented to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in 1955. Purchas prize paintings acquired since 1954 are still in the Society's possession.

Nancy Dustin Wall Moure was born on February 26, 1943, in Dayton, Ohio, United States. She is a daughter of Clayton Edgar Wall, an engineer, and Bemis Wall.
In 1965 Nancy Dustin Wall Moure received a Bachelor of Arts degree from San Diego State College (now San Diego State University). In 1968 she obtained a Master of Arts degree from the University of California, Los Angeles.
From 1968 to 1983 Nancy Dustin Wall Moure was an assistant curator of American art at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. From 1985 to 1988 she was an art consultant at Jonathan Club, Los Angeles. She was an editor of Historical Collections Council Newsletter at Laguna Art Museum from 1985 to 2000. Since 1989 Moure has been an independent art consultant and curator.
She is a contributor of articles and reviews to periodicals, including Southwest Art, Fine Arts Trader, Art of California, American Art Journal, Southern California Quarterly, and Antiques and Fine Art. Nancy is also a contributor to Jonathan under pseudonym Paul Chevalier.
