Education
Nanmei Kamei first studied medicine under Dokushoan Nagatomi at Owsaka and later began to study the doctrines of Sorai Ogyu from Shu-nan Yamagata at Nagato (Yamaguchi Prefecture).
Career
Nanmei Kamei soon developed a doctrine of his own based on the teachings of Sorai and was appointed teacher to the Fukuoka Clan (1778). When a ban was placed on Chinese learning he lost his job. It is said he slowly went mad after that and died.
