Joined National Space Development Agency of Japan (NASDA), 1996. Involved with development of the International Space Station Centrifuge, 1998—2000. Selected by NASDA (now JAXA-Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency-NASDA merged with ISAS-Institute Space & Astronautic Science and NAL-National Aerospace Laboratory Japan and renamed JAXA in 2003) as Japanese astronaut candidate for International Space Station, 1999.
Attended the ISS astronaut basic training program, 1999. Astronaut JAXA, since 2001. Completed Soyuz-Turnaround Management Association flight engineer-1 training Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center, Star City, Russia, 2004.
