He studied medicine and Japanese classics under Atsutane Hirata, a noted scholar on classics.
Career
He was recognized as an able ophthalmologist and obstetrician. Practiced medicine in his native place and won great reputation. He worked actively for the cause of promoting Imperial prestige among the Shinto circles. He became the chief priest of the Aburi Shrine (Kanagawa Prefecture) in his late years and Mishima Shrine (Shizuoka Prefecture). Wrote books on medicine and the Japanese language.
