Narichika Fujiwara was born in 1138. He was the son of Ienari who was Gon Chuncugon (secretary under the Vice Minister), he was favored by ex-Emperor Goshirakawa and appointed Gon Dainagon Vice-Minister.

During the War of the Heiji Era in 1159, he took the side of Nobuyori Fujiwara and was captured by the forces of the Taira family. Shigeraori Taira, being a relative of Narichika's used his influence and saved his life. Later, at the secret request of ex-Emperor Goshira- kawa, he conferred at Shishigatani with Saiko and others on a plan of destroying the Tairas. The secret conference coming to light, he was exiled to Bizen (Okayama Prefecture) and on his way there, he was killed in 1177 by the forces of Kiyomori Taira.
