The Asia Pacific Glaucoma Guidelines originated in 2003, with a second, updated edition following in 2008. The Guidelines were created to raise awareness and update clinical knowledge about glaucoma, and to provide a rational basis for glaucoma diagnosis and cost effective management that is appropriate for the Asia-Pacific Region. The third edition has been thoroughly updated by a working party and review committee consisting of international renowned experts.

Kitnarong was born on January 5, 1969 in Bangkok, Thailand; the son of Kitnarong and Pimsen Kitnarong.
Kitnarong studied at Mahidol University from 1988 to 1993 and received a Doctor of Medicine degree. Also he studied at Thammasat University in 1999-2001 and was given a Master of Business Administration degree.
Kitnarong began his career as a director of Ladbaulung community Hospital in 1994 and held it for two years. Also he worked as a resident of the department of ophthalmology in Faculty of Medicine at Siriraj Hospital of Mahidol University from 1997 to 1999.
In 2000, Naris was appointed an instructor at the same hospital, where he worked until 2004. Then in 2005, Kitnarong held the position of an assistant professor at Siriraj Hospital of Mahidol University and served for three years. Since 2009 he has been an associate professor at that hospital.

2016Kitnarong is a member of the Medical Council of Thailand, Royal College of Ophthalmologists of Thailand and American Academy of Ophthalmology.
