Malakhovskaia, Natal'ia was born in 1947.
Founder member of the feminist group Maria and one of its three leaders who were exiled in July 1980 for protesting against the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. On 1 March 1980, called on Russian mothers and wives to encourage their sons and husbands to avoid military service in Afghanistan, pointing out that the Soviet Union was not officially at war with Afghanistan, and thus their men by law would not face execution, but only 3 years in prison. Began producing a journal called Maria.
A graduate in Russian philology, lost her first job in a library. Arrested by the Committee for State Security and given the choice of a prison term or exile. Chose exile. Lives in Paris and is engaged in feminist publishing activities.
