Alexandre Sitnikov was born in 1945. He lives and works in Moscow. Sitnikov graduated from the Surikov Art Academy in 1972. Drawing his inspiration on a variety of sources, from Surrealism to Egyptian art, his paintings are brightly colored and heavily layered. Combining color with surreal symbolical imagery, the artist often has recurring subjects in his art his family, self-portraits, or composers Dmitri Shostakovich and Alfred Schnittke, as well as allegorical and mythological motifs. In his art, the interplay of color relationships and its connotations and drama where geometrical and sensual, emotional and rational create an intellectual playground with humanitarian signs and symbols of civilization. Sitnikov is the recipient of the National Award of Russia in Fine Arts and member of the Russian Academy of Arts. The book Alexander Sitnikov reflects the artist s career from 1963 to the present day and was published in conjunction with artist retrospective exhibition Olga Bulgakova and Alexander Sitnikov.
