Background
Hartono was born and raised in Singapore. His mother is Jocelyn Tjioe, the senior vice president of the Tung Lok group, founded by his grandfather.

Education
Hartono studied at the Nanyang Primary School, American College of Surgeons (Barker Road) and ACJC.
Career
He is currently studying at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. In June 2009, Hartono sang the theme song, Asia’s Youth, Our Future at the Asian Youth Games. Hartono has performed in sold-out shows at the Esplanade and also supported Stefanie Sun in July 2009.
His debut album was called LET Master of Engineering SING! Life, Love and All That Jazz, and two weeks as the number one album on HMV’s Jazz Chart.
He released the jazz album Feeling Good - with Nathan Hartono in 2011. His third album, released in 2012, was a departure from his usual jazz work, exploring acoustic popular and folk style.
In 2011, Hartono performed in Pangdemonium"s production of Spring Awakening (play) opposite Julia Abueva. Hartono was nominated for an ELLE Award 2012 for his performance.
Hartono performed the song Layu Sebelum Berkembang for the official soundtrack of feature film Langit Ke 7.
In 2012, Hartono was the Ambassador of the Singaporean Eco Music Challenge. Hartono is also the Opinion Leader (Music) of Puma Faas Beats Campaign 2012. Hartono took part in the National Service in Singapore in 2009.
Hartono has spoken of how he is influenced by Frank Sinatra.
