Sargent, Nathan was born on October 29, 1849 in New York, United States. Son of D. H. and Katherine (Sargent) Dustin.

Appointed to the United States Naval Academy, from Montana, 1866, graduate, 1870.

Career

Promoted ensign, July 1871. Master, July 1874; Lieutenant, January 1881. Lieutenant commander, March 1899.

Commander, September 1901. Captain, May 13, 1906. Naval attache at Rome, Berlin and Vienna, 1889-1893.

Commanding United States Ship Scorpion and Machias, Atlantic Fleet, 1899-1901, United States Ship Baltimore, Asiatic Fleet, 1904-1906. Member General Board Home: Washington, Distric.
