Natsuno Kiyohara was bestowed the family name of Kiyohara by the Emperor (804). Under orders from Emperor Junna, he and 12 other scholars were commissioned to compile the Ryd-no-Gigef a work advocated by Imatari Nu-ka( aiming to interpret the various laws. This work was completed in 10 volumes, in a period of seven years (826-833). Later Natsuno Kiyohara compiled Nihon Kdki (A History of the Early Heian Period). Natsuno was also a judge.
