Radio Calmer was hired by Edward R. Murrow to work for Columbia Broadcasting System in 1940. Other notable members include Charles Collingwood, Richard C. Hottelet and Larry Le Sueur . During his tenure at Columbia Broadcasting System Calmer also hosted the Columbia Broadcasting System World News Roundup.
The radio show began on March 13, 1938 in response to growing tensions in Europe.
