One hundred years ago, the pioneer American Church was undergoing a crisis of communication and understanding between the bishops and priests similar to that faced by today's Church. In the late 1880's a prophetic voice of dissent arose to assail the abuses of arbitrary episcopal power. Father Eugene O'Callaghan was a tireless crusader for the cause of Church reform. He was especially insistent on establishing a system of due process in the Church, and was himself often the victim of episcopal power by the American hierarchy. This is a book from which many valuable lessons can be gleaned and applied to the contemporary problems facing the Church and her members today.
